Don’t Take Your Light
Hunter Cahill
Hunter Cahill released his entire debut behind a wolf mask — six confessional singles the press called “stunning,” from a man who wouldn’t show his face. The Estuary Sessions are what happened when he took it off. Don’t Take Your Light is the barest thing he’s put out yet: hairs left in the sink for weeks, a scent kept in the sheets, the daily discipline of not letting yourself believe they’re coming home. Second single from the sessions, recorded with engineer Matt Gerhard at Estuary Recording in Austin. Out August 14, 2026.

Lyrics
Try not to wish
Take what I get
Try not to want
Want it, it’s gone
There are your things
All over the bed
There are the things
Can’t be unsaid
No birds sing in the trees
No flowers bloom for the bees
Ground has forgotten its seed
Well has run dry underneath
Don’t take your light
Out of my life, babe
Hairs in the sink
Leave them for weeks
Scent in the sheets
Leave them for weeks
Try not to drink
Quiet alone
Try not to think
You’re coming home
No birds sing in the trees
No flowers bloom for the bees
Ground has forgotten its seed
Well has run dry underneath
Don’t take your light
Out of my life, babe
About
Hunter Cahill is an Austin, Texas singer-songwriter. His debut collection Some Things You Don’t Know About Me arrived between 2021 and 2022: six self-recorded singles, confessional music that kept its distance. The press noticed. Austin Town Hall drew comparisons to David Bazan; Soundsphere called it “stunning.” He released all of it wearing a wolf mask.
The Estuary Sessions, recorded with engineer Matt Gerhard, go further back than the coping does: to a religious upbringing where love and fear were the same, and to what that does to a person.
